First Friday Art Stroll is on February 6th. Art Stroll gets underway at 6:00 pm but there’s a good reason to come down early this time around!
You might have noticed that the Start Noodle dragon sign has been reinstalled on the building at 225 Historic 25th Street. The building owner and construction team are hosting a re-lighting ceremony this Friday at 5:00pm, with the lighting to take place at 5:30pm.
The former Star Noodle dragon sign stood watch over 25th Street for more than five decades and is a recognizable icon to longtime Ogden residents as well as visitors. In 2008, the sign was taken down for the purpose of renovation.
The original sign was built by YESCO in the 1950s with 250 feet of neon and 58 smaller lights. YESCO was contracted to refurbish the sign and the entire structure was completely sanded down and meticulously refurbished to its original glory.
The sign is expected to be a permanent art installation that stands as a reminder of the street’s electric and brilliant history while lighting the way for future progress, innovation and the resurgence of commerce and business still to come to the area.
This week is also the launch of the Focus Festival: a celebration of the recorded image. Focus Fest is a city-wide celebration of photography featuring exhibitions, workshops and more! You can see the full lineup at www.focusfest.org but we highly recommend checking out Whitespace Contemporary and Pandemounium Art Gallery for their focus fest exhibits.
Whitespace’s show for Focus Fest is entitled “archi/texture”, featuring local artists Amelju and Brian Tuttle as well as other international artists with an eye toward details in the built and natural environment.
Pandemonium has a photography collection by Ashley Ward as part of the Focus Fest and will also be featuring a new artist, Grant Fuhst.
“Travelling Light” by Grant Fuhst, on display at Pandemonium Art Gallery
Nurture the Creative Mind is hosting an exhibit called “I am…” featuring poems and photography at the NCM space from students we have been working with at Millcreek Juvenile Detention Center. NCM also has an exhibit on display at Grounds for Coffee 25th Street featuring student photography, paintings, and other mixed media arts.
Bella Muse Gallery has partnered up with Hatch Family Chocolatier’s for this Valentine’s edition of art stroll. You can find complete details on the event listing, tastings will be available 6-9 pm.
Green the World will have new art by Rebecca Ory Hernandez on display and of course hand-crafted goods from local producers.
As always, we encourage you to come out for dinner and drinks as you take in the art scene in downtown Ogden. Historic 25th Street is home to more than a dozen amazing restaurants, all of them locally owned and operated.
